The First Car Project (TFCP) is a nonprofit organization based in Kentucky that is dedicated to assisting young adults as they make the challenging leap from the foster care system to independent living. This transition can present numerous hurdles, with transportation being a significant barrier. TFCP seeks to tackle this issue head-on by offering these individuals a safe and dependable vehicle. Through a collaborative effort with the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, TFCP ensures that recipients not only receive a vehicle but also the necessary training to upkeep and service it. With each car granted, we are not just providing transportation, but also opening up a world of possibilities and opportunities for these deserving individuals.

The First Car Project was launched in the winter of 2023 with a simple yet powerful goal: to provide one car to a deserving young adult. What started as a humble initiative has now blossomed into a beacon of hope for those in need. We ended our first year by helping FOUR young adults get behind the wheel. This milestone marks a significant achievement for our organization, reflecting our commitment to empowering and supporting young individuals in achieving their goals and dreams. Through 2025, we have provided 12 First Cars!!

We are thrilled to announce we met our 2025 fundraising goal of $100,000! In 2025 the First Car Project held two Key Ceremonies to award foster youth with their first cars. The first ceremony was held Cars in the Commonwealth on July 26, 2025. The second Key Ceremony was at RAD Revival in the Paristown Arts District in Louisville on November 1, 2025. With the help of our donors and community, we are confident that we can make a positive impact on the lives of these young adults.
